Integrated Health Care: The Natural Origin of Health and Wellness

Tara Clapp B.Sc., ND

With a lifelong dream of becoming a veterinarian, Tara entered Guelph University, eager to begin her learning. She held a part-time job at the Bank of Montreal throughout her university career and during the summers enrolled in continuing education courses offered by the university. After completing first year, she became interested in human health and enhancement and transferred into the Human Biology program. Tara became a graduate in 1994, receiving her Bachelor of Science (honours), with a Specialized Honours in Human Biology, a minor in Child Studies and a second minor in Nutrition.

In 1996, Tara was accepted into the naturopathic program at the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine in Toronto. In addition to the typical courses offered in medical school, she also learned the natural therapies such as Chinese medicine and acupuncture, herbal medicine, nutrition, nutritional supplementation, homeopathy, chiropractic, and counselling. In the year 2000, she became a member of the largest graduating class ever recorded at the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine.

Having passed all the Board exams, she moved to St. Catharines in September of 2000 and set up her naturopathic practice.

She was a regular columnist for the local publication The Natural Healer, writing articles on all aspects of health. She was also a guest speaker on Niagara’s local Cogeco channel, talking about nutrition for the family and detoxification. Doing regular speaking engagements in the community got her noticed by a member of the Continuing Education Program at Brock, and she now offers two courses each term for the program. Her passion for teaching and sharing her vision are reflected in the courses, and graduates of her courses are always eager for the next one.

Being a naturopathic doctor has proved to be a rewarding experience, having a part in people’s transformation and realization of their health potential. She is constantly updating her skills through new courses and uses this information to better her clients. She is a dedicated and caring physician, taking personal interest in her clients’ health and life. She has a passion for self-development programs that push her beyond her regular physical and mental performance, takes regular yoga classes and meditation, loves photography, and is addicted to scrap booking.

Tara currently operates Integrated Health Care, a multidisciplinary clinic on Ontario Street. She has put together a fantastic team of health professionals to care for all aspects of a client’s health, through all ages and stages. Services of the clinic include 2 naturopathic doctors, 2 registered massage therapists, a homeopathic doctor and a shiatsu therapist.
